Mixed use conversion
This building was previously used as a carpet warehouse and my client wanted to change its use to a mix of commercial and residential accommodation.
The main body of the property was converted to give a large design studio on the ground floor with the two upper floors converted to provide 8 large flats with large cantilevered balconies to the East looking over what has now become the East London line.
We built a new 2 storey extension to the smaller 2 storey block to the south and created 2 large duplex apartments. The new extension was timber clad to the newly created garden with a large glazed sliding door and high level glazing to the East. The palette of materials was kept simple and contemporary including perforated aluminium sheet and polycarbonate panels, with the existing fabric of the buildings cleaned and restored to retain the character of its previous life.
