Timber pavilion, Wales
The existing property consists of two cottages that
have been modified to form one dwelling, which
overlook the bay of Cardigan in Wales.
The client wanted to extend the accommodation to
create a family room within the extensive garden.
The scheme consists of two elements:
The existing profile of the cottage was extruded
using matching materials to create a new bay to
house ‘wet’ rooms, and outdoor equipment storage
at ground floor, and a master bedroom with private
terrace at first floor. The second element takes the form
of a timber pavilion that creates a new focus for the
property as a whole.
The pavilion has sliding glazed doors to a large verandah
overlooking the garden and beyond to the bay.
A pergola that runs around this elevation visually
reduces the height of the extension, and clerestory
glazing reduces the weight of the planted roof.
